We love coconut, which is why we use coconut fatty acid as a cleaning agent in many of our shampoos.
Surfactants are generally alkaline (pH greater than 7.0) in nature. By reducing the pH using coconut fatty acid, the product becomes less foamy and better for your hair. It also makes it easier to rinse the surfactant and dirt away, while still providing a really high, but gentle level of cleaning power.
Coconut fatty acid is a glyceryl ester of coconut oil which comes from expressing the dried inner parts of the coconut. The acid from the coconut oil is able to penetrate the hair shaft, nourishing the hair with vitamins, minerals and the medium-chain fatty acids. Giving a long straight structure, this type of fatty acid is more easily absorbed deep into the hair rather than just coating the strands benefiting the hair from the inside.
That’s nuts!….
Despite its name and shell, coconut is not a true nut. It’s technically a special type of fruit called a drupe. This contains its seed within a hard stone or shell like a peach or an olive. Meaning that along with all its amazing moisturising properties, it can be used by most people with nut allergies.
