Cocos nucifera oil, is a clear or yellowish oil derived from the kernel of dried coconuts. This contains 65% of coconut oil which, is often said to be the best oil to use on your hair. In our products we use this ingredient in a botanical blend for its nourishing and moisturising benefits. It helps reduce protein loss and keep each hair strand looking healthy. This happens as it is packed with lauric acid, a type of saturated fat helping to retain the protein. Research has also shown that coconut oil is effective in combating dandruff by stimulating the production of collagen in skin, which is also what helps produce keratin, one of the building blocks in your hair. It also carries antimicrobial properties useful for treating dandruff causing microbes. Also, it can ease and alleviate dryness caused by contact dermatitis, such as eczema and psoriasis.
Additionally to being good for your scalp it adds that much needed moisture to the hair. It is more easily absorbed deep into the hair shaft making it that much better than other oils in repairing dryness.
Want to know something extra interesting? Some studies have found that coconut oil actually has a sun protection factor of 8, so can help to protect the hair from UV rays!
That’s nuts!….
Despite its name and shell, coconut is not a true nut. It’s technically a special type of fruit called a drupe which contains its seed within a hard stone or shell like a peach or an olive. Meaning that along with all its amazing moisturising properties, it can be used by most people with nut allergies.
